Garrett Matlock
Garrett Matlock is a private clarinet instructor and freelance clarinetist in the Chicago area, performing regularly with the Chicago Folks Operetta. Additionally, he serves as a chamber music coach for the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestras Chamber Music Institute. Garrett holds a Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He conducted additional graduate studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
His primary clarinet teachers include Susan Warner (Lyric Opera of Chicago), Craig Nordstrom (Boston Symphony Orchestra), and J. David Harris (Champaign-Urbana Symphony and formerly Illinois Symphony Orchestra). Additionally, he has worked with renowned clarinet professors, Yehuda Gilad (University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and the Colburn School), Richard Hawkins (Oberlin Conservatory of Music), Dan Gilbert (University of Michigan and formerly the Cleveland Orchestra), and Ken Grant (Eastman School of Music).
