The end of the competitive season for the 2014 Marching Panthers happened on Saturday, October 11th. Though the Panthers weren’t close to the top in any of the rankings, the Panthers achieved their best scores of the season, and got to see some amazing bands throughout the day. Our goal of continued improvement was achieved, and we look forward to this momentum carrying over to next season. Our fabulous parents deserve a huge thank you for all the help this season; this huge undertaking could not have been done without you guys!!!

On Tuesday, October 9th, several OHS instrumentalists and vocalists auditioned for placement in the 2014 IMEA All-District music ensembles, playing alongside of the best and brightest students from all of the area schools. Several students, through very hard work, were able to attain a spot in one of the groups. Congratulations to clarinetists Megan Dobbertin and Laura Dombkowski, oboe player Bri Bradley, trombonist Tiana Ninic, percussionists John Watson and Nikesh Patel, French horn players Scott Eriksen and Hannah Loeffelholz, bass clarinetist Blake Prevett, flute player Isabella Pelikan, guitarist Danny Anderson, and vocalists Sarah Obert and Abi Hummel. These outstanding and Panther musicians will be performing with other the other students in the middle of November.

The Marching Panthers are really stepping up their game; while we were not near the top of the final standings, ending up third place in their class in general effect, and a few points out of third in percussion, was huge for their confidence. (an earlier version of this post inadvertently had listed that OHS was “a few points out of third place” which was erroneous. Mr. Schoenbach apologizes for any confusion)
Check out our FANTASTIC drumline and pit, performing a segment of their show in a clinic setting.

The annual Homecoming week has come and gone, and there was a lot of activity at OHS. Of course, the parade is always a highlight, with Buffalo Wild Wings catering the event…

Saturday’s “Red and Black Classic” at Northern Illinois University was our first competition of the year. There were many good lessons learned for everyone, and the Panther Marching Band impressed a lot of judges, finishing as high as 9th in the total ranking out of 28 bands. Thanks to Mrs. Buan for taking all these great pics, available in the link below!!!

The rain gods have been against us this year so far, with downpours accompanying both football games, many practices, and looking like it’s coming for our first competition today. But you can’t dampen Panther Pride!!!

Last Friday, we ended band camp with a fantastic picnic, put on by our Band Booster organization. Following that, we had our annual Parent Demo, where the PMB not only showed off the parts of the show that we head learned already, but gave our PMB families a chance to see what it’s like to be in our little organization (which happens to be the biggest organization at OHS).

This week, our marching band is doing something different…music sectionals before marching camp. For one of these days, we had the Director of Athletic Bands at NIU, Thomas Bough, out to work with the band.
