Welcome to the Panther Band!!!
Well, it's time to welcome you to the Oswego Band Program! Whether you are a seasoned veteran, or this is your first year as part of our family, we are happy to have you as part of one of the best and most well-rounded band programs in the state.
This email will hopefully give you some important information to get you through the first few days of school and band, but of course, if you have further questions, shoot us an email and let us know. 1) Band students will NOT need their instruments for the first two days of band, with the exception being students in our marching band, who have rehearsal after school on the first day. We will be going over our policies/rules, checking out school instruments and folders, assigning lockers and locks, etc. With all of the logistics to go over, we will not begin playing until Monday, August 19th. From that day forward, we will play, every day, so students will never have to ask "Do we need our instruments today?", because the answer will be "Yes, this is band class!!!" ;) 2) Students that need school instruments need to fill out this Google Form, and this includes students that play percussion, tuba, bass trombone, euphonium, bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, bassoon, and baritone saxophone. We MAY have a limited number of other smaller instruments, but if you played a school instrument in junior high and you don't play one of the listed instruments, in all likelihood you'll have to rent an instrument from one of the local vendors, namely PM Music or Quinlan and Fabish. There is a small fee to play a school instrument, for percussionists it's $50 for the year, and all other instruments $100 for the year. That fee goes into a yearly cleaning and natural wear and tear, NOT major repairs, which will need to be covered by the family renting the instrument. Those fees are paid for via our school's PushCoin system, linked conveniently here. If you can do this prior to the start of school, that will greatly help us in getting the instruments checked out right away, and your student playing right away. Link to $50 Percussion fee Link to $100 Instrument fee (everyone that needs an instrument EXCEPT for percussion) 3) Students interested in Jazz Band have some important things to do right away. We have three full jazz bands, and one of the best programs in the state. We do auditions fairly close to the start of the school year...no one gets cut, they are merely to place everyone in the best band for their ability. We host a Jazz Workshop right after school on Tuesday, August 20th, to give students some help on the audition material, and their audition videos are due one week later, on Tuesday, August 27th. Students can find the audition material at the Jazz Auditions Google Classroom, with code wmfbysf . So, get those instruments out and dust them off. Oil the valves, and break in the reeds. We can not wait to see everyone next week! |
