Please read below for some important
information regarding our first days of school.
Welcome, OHS Panther Band Family!
We are so excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year! We had an amazing ending to our last school year, and are looking forward to building on those successes in the coming months. This letter will serve to let you know what to expect as we start the year together next week.
We’d first like to take a moment to introduce/reintroduce ourselves. Mrs. Stephanie San Roman is in her 18th year teaching at Oswego High School. She earned her Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Illinois and Masters of Music Education from Vandercook College of Music. She is a fine clarinet player, and was recently named one of 30 recipients of the Country Music Association’s Music Teachers of Excellence. She is married to her husband Roman, an interior designer and stay-at-home dad, and has three kids, Sophie (7 years old), Santi (5 years old) and Estefania (3 years old). She traveled to the Smokey Mountains and Washington DC this summer, and enjoys spending time with her family.
Mr. Kevin Schoenbach is in his 15th year teaching at OHS and 23rd overall. He earned his Bachelors of Music Education from Northern Illinois University and Masters of Music Education from Vandercook College of Music. He is an active performing trombonist, and he is currently a quarterfinalist for the Grammy Music Educator of the Year. He is married to his wife Kristin, Chief Forensic Psychologist of DuPage County, and has two little girls, Greta (5 years old) and Genevieve (3 years old). Mr. Schoenbach traveled to St. Louis this summer, and is also a loyal Cubs season ticket holder.
And new to the OHS Bands this year is Mr. Tyler White. Mr. White is coming to us and Oswego East, teaching mainly our new Piano and Music Production classes and a little band as well. He is in his 12th year teaching, and plays the saxophone and guitar. He is married to his wife Nidhi, an architect, and has one little girl named Iyla (2.5 years old). Mr. White loves spending time outdoors, and traveled to Philadelphia and the Warren Dunes this summer.
Now that you have met us, let’s get to some important information for the first few days of school.
Musically,

Now that you have met us, let’s get to some important information for the first few days of school.
- As you hopefully have heard, our music program is traveling to Orlando in the Spring. The cutoff date to sign up for this trip is coming soon (8/25). The way that the signups will work is after the first 90 students, there will start a waiting list for the next 45 students, and once that fills up, those people are in and a new waiting list starts for the next students, and will proceed that way for each set of 45 students, which is approximately how many we need to warrant a bus at the pricepoint we have laid out. If you are interested in finding out more about the trip, click on this link. Dates, cost, and what comes with the trip are all included there. Also, there will be mandatory Friday rehearsals until 4:00PM starting second semester, so if you can not commit to those, you will not be able to go on the trip. We STRONGLY encourage you to sign up soon if you are interested, as of this email we are almost filling up the third bus and the next students will be on a waiting list for the fourth bus to fill up.
- Students will need their Chromebooks the first few days of class, but will NOT need their instruments the first two days of school, 8/16 and 8/17. If your instrument has sat in the case all summer, now would be the time to make sure it is working, and get the necessary accessories you need to be successful. You can click on this link to see what you will need. We will discuss instrument maintenance in the first weeks of class, and one of students first grades will be that they have the necessary equipment, and that it works.
- Along the lines of instruments, we do have a limited number of school instruments that students can use, for a small fee. These are mainly the larger instruments (tuba, large saxes, bass clarinet). Also, because of the nature of playing percussion and all the school instruments that go with that, there is an agreement and a small fee for that as well. If you need a school instrument or play percussion, please fill out this form, and pay the included fee for your instrument. We will be begin handing out the school instruments in the first few days of school.
- Lastly, we have auditions for our jazz program fairly early in the school year. While we will certainly talk about it those first few days, if you would like to check out the music and get a head start, students can use the Google Classroom code gcbgz4c. No one is cut from our jazz program; auditions are merely to place students in the correct level, as we have three bands.
